smidgen of [eternity]

i talk non-stop, as all my friends can attest to, but lately i don't write so much. the speed of thought is way faster than my typing speed - that might explain a little..

i wish i could write again. not just for this blog, but writing in general.. like how i used to a few years ago. i think i've become too impatient. sigh

then again, sometimes not writing, not talking means more.. told my bf once. when i don't say something that's when you start worrying (in the context of being mad at him, of course =)..

similarly for shows/movies.. if i have nothing to say abt it after, that probably means i've been deafened by my thoughts and numbed by my emotions. and sometimes, i prefer it that way - not disturbing the sacred silence..

but it's not all films that elicit that sort of response of course. just to name a recent two - the pianist and ararat ...

for such films that touch upon such sensitive and truly tragic issues, there is nothing that can be said that would do true justice to the horror, the pain, the suffering..

i am reminded of someone, i now forget, who told, no, entrusted to his fellow jews the duty to "schreib, schreib, schreib und schreib.." ("write, write, write and write..") so that the world would know and never forget..

i am also reminded of a poet who also said something along the lines of how is one ever to write about the holocaust.. would anyone dare?..

.. anyway, today, my friend and i would have sat till the very end of ararat's credits, till the screen went black and the terrible techno they always play in between shows came on, had we not been irritated by two guys sitting in the same row.

"well.." said one, "that was very one-sided." "yes," agreed the other. "you'll have to look at the turkish side too, of course, whether they denied it [the armenian genocide] or not."

one word - whatever!! i have absolutely NOTHING but contempt for pple who try to sound smart (same goes for those who think that the extra year that allows them the 'honour' of writing a thesis grants them the god-given right to lord over the rest and majority of the student population).

yes. they have the right to their own opinions. yes. this society of ours allows the freedom of speech and expression. but please, all i ask is to think a little. to think before you speak. would they have said the same for schindler's list? -- "hmm yes, that was awful, but you know, we ought to ask the germans if it really happened."

to put it in perspective. it's the same for all those idiots out there who once argued that the holocaust never existed. same for the armenian genocide. it happened, period. and we must never forget..

how, as a character in the film said, can they hate us so much to want to kill us? ... and we pride ourselves on being an intelligent, civilised species..
